The Challenge
Whilst they already had a digital platform, but the product was buggy, not scalable and was not at a point, where they can use to attract investors to support further growth. So we were tasked with creating a completely user experience for the platform, which has to cater for watch enthusiasts and newcomers alike, build out user journeys for the KYC, sell, buy and learn features. The real challenge? It had to be all done within 3 months!
Rethinking a luxury watch trading platform
We started the project with a discovery workshop to have a deep understanding of the goals and objectives of the project. Since some of the more complex features were not fully mapped out, we worked extremely collaboratively with the client to ideate on solutions and refine each user journeys.
Some key user journeys includes:
Learn - content platform
Sell - KYC, DocuSign signature, Quoting System,
Buy - Buy-Now, bidding progress
Products - Categorisation, listing pages, Same product with multiple listings
Given the short timeframe, we had to rapidly conduct research and wireframe up the entire product whilst certain questions were still being answered. And whilst it is a risk to start the development work before UI has been completed, unfortunately for this particular project, we simply had to if we were to meet the deadline.
The Technology
We took a headless approach for the project. Strapi drives the static content management and Vendure is a great CMS for product, orders and users management. NextJS was selected for the frontend as it is lightening fast in terms of page speed. This approach also allows for the expansion into other frontend channels like iOS and Android, without the need of separate backends for those channels.
A number of third party services were integrated into the digital platform. Sumsub streamlines the KYC processs, Checkout was used as the payment gateway given it is highly secure and DocuSign was integrated to accommodate document signature required during the watch listing process.
The Result
While it was a challenge but our team pulled through and we launched the product on time and soon after, Wristcheck was able to secure a 8M USD seed round, which has helped the client scale up an internally tech team and continued to scale up the platform.
